Councilor Micki Varney is running for re-election in the May 19, 2026 Primary!
For nearly four years, I’ve been working hard to help build a vibrant, livable West Salem with affordable housing, local services, and the small-town character we love. But there’s more work to do!
As your neighbor, I experience the frustrations of West Salem’s transportation challenges daily. West Salem needs my strong, experienced advocacy on the council as Salem updates its long-term Transportation Plan for the first time in decades.
I fell in love with West Salem because it reminded me of the communities I grew up in. Through my years with the neighborhood association and on city council, I've seen us come together in times of need. I know what we're capable of when we have strong leadership fighting for us.
West Salem needs a voice at City Hall who knows our issues, knows how to get things done, and won't back down. I've spent years doing exactly that: working with neighbors and navigating city government to deliver results. If you give me the privilege of continuing to serve, I will fight to make West Salem greener, more prosperous, and more beautiful.

About Councilor Micki Varney
Before her election to Salem City Council, Micki built deep roots in Salem's civic life, serving as Chair of both the Salem Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and the West Salem Neighborhood Association. This hands-on community leadership prepared her to hit the ground running on Council, where she's championed homelessness initiatives, climate action, and affordable housing.
A retired salmon biologist with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Micki brings scientific expertise and environmental stewardship to her council work. She holds degrees in Zoology from Washington State University and Biology from Central Washington University, where she also earned her teaching certificate.
When she's not at City Hall, Micki enjoys Oregon's outdoors and spending time with family, including helping out on her daughter's hazelnut farm.
